Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Pakistan President Asif Ali Zardari on Tuesday began a meeting in Yekaterinburg, the first since 26/11.
The one-on-one meeting indicates that relations between the two enemies may be thawing. The PM told Zardari that "we need assurance that Pak soil won't be used for terror against India".
At the meeting, Pakistan is likely to propose a Joint Intelligence-Sharing Mechanism with India, according to media reports.
The meeting indicates a thaw in bilateral relations which had suffered a major setback after the 26/11 Mumbai terror attacks. The two countries already have a Joint Anti-Terror Mechanism (JATM) which was proposed at the meeting between Manmohan and the then Pakistan President Pervez Musharraf in Havana on the sidelines of the NAM Summit.
The new proposal involves a meeting of top sleuths either at the level of intelligence agencies or the National Security Advisors.
