At any given election - Parliment/Assembly/Local Body.. a large number of Indians are missing on the polling day. Have you ever heard that the voting percentage is 100 ? Never. The Maximum will be around 60%. What about remaining 40% people ? Where they are and what they are doing ? Is it (Election) not related to them at all ? or Are they not Indians?
Who are these 40% people ? why can't they cast their vote? If these people are not able to do their basic duty of Democracy then there is no point in saying - we are living in a world's largest democratic country. One can understand that at any point of time aournd 5 to 10 % people will be in travelling or in Hospital and will not be able to cast their vote. But, It is not unfair to expect atleast 90% voting..
It is very simple and easy to find out the Missing Indians .. It is very simple and easy to make them cast their vote also..
1) Cut the electricity on the polling day (except polling booth) - People wont be sitting or sleeping at home, People wont be watching TV at home. I am sure most of the missing Indians are watching TV on polling day instead of casting their votes.
2) For the one who failed to vote - don't provide the electricity back.. let him live in dark Democracy.. Only after living in Dark, people will realize the importance of brightness.
3) For the one who failed to vote - Instead of collecting 30% tax and giving 70% money ---- Collect 70% tax and give 30% money..
4) For the one who failed to vote - Cancel Driving License and the Vechile registration made for him.. let him walk or let him catch up the government bus.
5) For the one who failed to vote - cancel the Ration card / Cancel the water connection.. they dont deserve..
6) Finally - cancel the citizenship and send them across Bay of Bengal / Indian Ocean.. Let them find the place suitable for them..
Lets implement all the above, then we wont see any Missing Indians.. Even from Hospital, people will go and cast their vote !!!

I agree your point b'cos government spends huge amount of money to select 500 candidates.
Then what I need to do if I feel none of contestants are eligible rule my country or state. Don’t give answer like "cast the vote as invalid" because there is no difference in fail to vote and invalid vote. Now a days people are educated and smart enough to choose to their leaders. Existing system forcing us to select head or tail.They dont want to simply go for head or tail. We need concrete reason if someone wants to rule us. There should be a option in ballot paper like "None of the contestants eligible”. If we have this kind of enhancements in our election then I am sure absentees list will reduce. If this system is implemented then I sure we can through the criminals out and find good politicians in our country.

Yes. I agree. We need to change our entire electoral system.. But whatever electoral system we have, we will have to vote for somebody or "don't like any candidate".
If the count of "Don't like any candidate" is maximum then declare all the candidates as ineligible. But the drawback here is we need to have another election to select the candidate, and the process will go on until we get good candidate..
By this way - definitly we can get rid of useless candidates from the election process itself. But we will have to spend huge money for this to happen :-)
It's not that people are not willing to vote.. Problem is our govt does not have any updated census information. We dont have any online db like people who are shifted, died, etc...for eg. In our area, the voters list contains the names who are no more, who were shifted to other states......
this would cover 20% of non-voted list.
Again, if the person was 15-17 laster, in the current year he may not be included in voter list. bcos, voter list is taken when ever there is election...which is rediculous...
Another issue is that there are lots of real voters and aged people who will vote by noon or evening. But before that, their names would have been voted by other person with help of booth people. We know very well that its not correct but cant do anything bcos, those people has got political powers, local gundas....
All this becuase of corrupted country we are in..
One best way is to change our electroal system to poll online..
We need to use proper authentication DOB, FN and LN or we can use any uniq key to identify each person (like SSN) and publish the results online in banner, TV as we do in Share markets.. So that none can malform this.. bcos, most the politicians are educated or at least computer literate.. Again this should be handled by a Geniune team not the greedy / any politician to be involved in this.. something like separate jury should be present..
We cannot find any single system in our coutry. bcos, people are lazy and asking bribe to do their work..
Technology improved so much. Eliminate all the old system and get it everything in online. This way we can avoid corruption..

Correct Muthu.. we need to leverage the Technology in order to have better system in place.
The first thing the government should do is to provide NID (National ID Card)- Including J&K :-) .. BJP included this in their manifesto to provide ID card for all citizens..
And they have also announced the change of voting process - like swiping credit/debit card .. we just need to swipe our national ID card in order to cast our vote.. In this way, there is no way for misusing others vote..
And Finally... its our (people) responsibility to cast our vote.. we should treat this as our basic DUTY. No point in blaming the government b'cos government is made up of the people who cast their votes..
People should treat this one of the big event happening in our own home.. My only worry is why around 40 % people are NOT bothering about these things and simply doing their job .. Are they real Indians?
