As we are living in one of the worst economic crisis situation, everyones expectation is when we will come out of the crises situation. But do we ever think about what harm the IPL will do for our economy...
1) People will stop work in the evening to watch the IPL matches which will result into poor productivity.
2) Most of the Indians will switch on TV until 11.30 PM everyday.
Along with this Fan/AC/Lights will also consume Power and
ultimately high usuage of electricity for these 2 months.
3) Since people watch matches upto 11.30 or 12, the productivity in the next day will also get affected.
4) People used to discuss the matches during office ours, which will decrease the productivity during the day time also.
5) April is the month for all board/Univerisy exams. All students will watch cricket match instead of preparing for exams which will result into poor performance in the exams.
6) During holidays, people used to travel across the state or country which will greatly increase revenue to the tourism deparment and will provide jobs to numerous people. Because of IPL,everybody wants to sit at home and watch matches which will affect the Tourism in India.
7) IncreasedTraffic Jams in the cities where the IPL matches played. which will result into high usage of fuel and more air pollution.
Wondering who will get benifitted from this IPL ? All the IPL Franchise owners and BCCI. Not India. Indian government will get ONLY 80 Crore rupees as tax after sacrificing the economic growth.
Now you say.. Is IPL bad for Indian Economy or Not?

Ganesh,
I don't think IPL will bring any harm to our country. see 1st of all whatever points u mention are not the correct reasons , like any city which will host the match will get so much money . that also will go to state government . and by the time this IPL will start most of the universities will get finish of there exams , all 10th 12th exams are done by april start. students will spend time in there home with there family.
and most importent is IPL will help in increasing the GDP of our country . i mean whatever money will get spend will increase the GDP and at this time of recession it is gud for our country.
So what i can say that IPL going to some other country may let down it's lots of fans but in the other end it will be bring gud times for our Economy!!!
two more important points i missed :-
1.) IPL bring lots of gud talent for our Indian team . It has provided a platform to all emerging players who were not able to show there talent, and the results are infront of us. Players like Yusuf Pathan , Suresh Raina and many more like that are important players in our team.
2.) And also we can't forget this point that it's 1st season increased GDP of our country by 0.5% . and this is fair gud percentage.
You are absolutely correct.. B'cos of IPL - we found lot of young players and its good for Team India.. Not for India :-) My point is IPL will definitly affect the productivity of the industries.. especially IT Industry.
Typically IT industry will be busy in the evening b'cos of onsite counterparts. This will be definitly affected by IPL and result into poor productivity..
Power consumption is the another one.. Typical Indian Village people will go to sleep around 9 PM. IPL will make them awake till 11.30 PM.. you can imagine how much power we will consume through out India..
During summer session, people used to travel a lot.. B'cos of IPL, everybody wants to sit at their home and watch cricket.. :-)
Normally people used to watch TV in the night even through IPL is not there [serials/movies…] hence Power consumption issue is not right.
Regarding IT companies, they are straggling to meet their targets, so if IT people not concentrating their job…. They have to search jobs……
One more fact is due to this financial crisis this type IPL will not give entertainment like last year…
